Horticulture Operations, Part-time internship (~5 hours per week)
Do you want to fight to make the world’s fresh produce healthier, tastier, and more sustainable? Are you interested to learn about how to grow plants indoors that aren’t cannabis?
As a Grower Intern at Tortuga, you’ll help grow healthy plants that will give birth to delicious produce. You’ll also get a front-row seat to the development of industry-changing technology. You’ll learn all about advanced growing methods like recirculating hydroponic substrate systems. You’ll master concepts from nutrient recipes to irrigation duty cycles, from pest and nutrient deficiency symptoms to ideal brix levels in delicious fruit (which you are free to eat, so long as you weigh and rate it!)
As an early team member at Tortuga, you’ll be fundamental to our success, growth, and culture. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, flexible, and energized startup environment. While this internship may have humble beginnings, you’re excited to see the journey begin and may want to join us full- or part-time in the future.
What you’ll do
As a Grower Intern, you’ll be responsible for your own learning and engagement - we want this to be a great experience for you. To help us out as well, you’ll be partially responsible for the care and management of the growing operation, under the supervision of our growing experts.
Work directly with the lead grower and expert grow advisor to learn about and care for plants
Help with basic operational duties like dosing and testing for nutrient levels, plant cultivation, trimming, pollinating, harvest, and maintenance
What we’re looking for
Eager to learn and excited about our mission
Willing to take lead ownership on site at least one day a week
With a good attitude and trajectory, open to more ownership and opportunity for compensation
